Keep an eye on your date’s behavior. You may assume you’re having an interesting conversation but your date may feel otherwise.
If your date seems to be looking around the room, shuffling their feet, staring blankly at you or in any way distracted, talk about something else, or wrap your statement up quickly and discreetly, laugh awkwardly and use the time tested line, “I’m talking too much… why don’t you tell me something…?”
If your date looks like they are about to say something that makes them look stupid (or perhaps they actually do), then save them from themselves by finishing their sentence for them.
For example:
You: I really enjoyed the museum. We got to see some really interesting exhibits…
Date: Oh, I was about to say the same thing! It’s so good that they have so many beautiful pieces of art on display for us ordinary folk to enjoy!
You: Yes it is impressive how many things they have there…
Do not carry this too far though, as your date may catch on and be offended by your attempt at “helping” them out. Good dating advice would say you should only save your date from certain embarrassment 3 times per date. Should any more opportunities present themselves where you can feel confident that saving your date will fly under the radar, go ahead and help them out again. But never do again after that.

’re trying to have a conversation while dating but your date seems very distracted. How can you tell if they are listening or just staring at you?
Here are some tips that might help:
- Look for eye contact. If your date is listening closely, they should look at you when you speak and maintain eye contact. [ - Keep an eye on their other body language. Watch for fidgeting especially.]
- Their hands may be moving too much if they aren’t interested in what you say so take note of this as well.
- A break in the conversation could mean a pause to think about what was said, not a lack of interest, so wait until it seems like a natural time to end your statement before you assume.
Every dating situation is different and there are many clues to how your date feels about what you say. Keeping an eye on their reactions can help you tell if they are truly listening or distracted.
Additional notes: People will assume that dating tips are for women, but this one could be useful for men too. It’s important to not get offended if someone isn’t interested in dating advice-- it's not meant to be personal! Disengaging quickly in a non-embarrassing manner helps both people involved in the dating situation feel more comfortable. If you're spending time with someone who doesn't care to hear dating tips, maybe try suggesting that they read them instead!

Do not judge others on their appearance. Judge them on their character. Do not listen to what a person says about themselves. Watch what they do instead. Most dating tips will tell you to hold a conversation, but sometimes there are dating situations where it is better not to talk at all. Try dating without saying anything for an entire date, or try dating with just eye contact-- just see what you think!.
