Put yourself in the shoes of a potential match. # hushcupid.com
"I asked my dating coach friend, what is the best dating tip he has ever given to his clients? Without any hesitation, he responds with this dating advice: "Put yourself in the shoes of a potential match. It helps you to see dating from someone else's perspective." When I first started dating as a single mom after 18 years of marriage, I was utterly confused and overwhelmed by how men were looking at me. I would go out on an evening date with a guy only to be utterly disappointed that nothing really clicked between us. I took it personally and assumed there must be something wrong with me or maybe "it" just wasn't meant to be. But after going through a dating make myself and working as a dating coach for nearly 10 years, I've come to the conclusion that dating is not about my needs or agenda. It is about my potential partner's needs and desires. That dating tip has made me a much more effective dating coach in helping women (and men) create their online dating profile in way that attract high-quality matches in shortest time possible." _____ Title: Put yourself in the shoes of a potential match. Because he wasn't dating much, she asked him to make an investment — not in the dating site where they connected — but instead to create a profile on another dating site for a few weeks. "I wanted him to see how people could be different online than they are IRL (in real life)," says Poonawalla. "You can take yourself out of your comfort zone and see what you're like without the facade." It's not just dating coaches who encourage potential matches and their partners to judge each other through profiles: Matchmaker Maureen Carland recommends creating profiles on dating sites as part of the vetting process, to see which dating sites are better matches. "I have several clients who created dating profiles on dating sites they were considering joining," says Carland. "They wanted to get a sense of how their information was being presented and be able to more easily sort through the personas represented there." ... 3. Create your own dating profile so you can speak from first-hand experience about what you're looking for. "Most women are getting dozens of messages, only a few of which stand out. It can be a real eye-opener," says Jakovljevic. "When you create a dating profile, you'll get a better sense of the kind of messages that draw your eye and which kinds of messages may be getting overlooked." ... 4. Use dating sites to meet people, but don't let them define your dating life. "I had one client who was spending so much time on dating apps that she wasn't dating [in person]," says Poonawalla. "Her [dating] world was very small again because she relied only on dating apps." ... The more time you wait, the less likely it is that potential matches will gravitate toward your profile in the first place. "If you go into dating sites thinking 'this is going to work out,' then you're going to be disappointed," says Jakovljevic. "If you go in with a dating site as one of your dating tools, then you're more likely to meet someone who's worth meeting."
