You have a date tonight. Your palms are getting sweaty, the butterflies in your stomach are fluttering around as you pick out an outfit, and you’re not sure if it’s going to be one of those dates where he didn’t text back or if it’s going to be everything dating dreams are made of. It doesn’t matter what happens on your date — at the end of the night, try to remind yourself that dating is a wonderful experience itself, says dating coach Marni Battista .
No matter how many times my dating coach told me this over the past few months, I couldn't bring myself to say "enjoy" instead of "survive." There's definitely something about dating that makes it difficult to enjoy, but I think dating is a great way to learn about relationships and dating culture—something you wouldn't get if you stayed home on a Friday night. In the future, I'll try to change my dating coach's phrasing from "enjoy" to "get better at."
Ackerman says it’s all about changing your mindset. “If we go into dating thinking there’s only one outcome — sex, marriage, relationship — then it’s almost impossible not to have that be our goal for every date we go on,” she says. “But dating itself can be the end. Dating allows us to experience new personalities, perspectives, physical intimacy, and lessons learned about what we do and don’t like.”
You say dating gives us all of these different experiences, which I agree with 100%. However, dating does have an end goal: dating leads to relationships . People often meet their significant others on dating apps and dating sites. While it may seem nice to not think about getting married every time you go on a date, dating helps people ultimately achieve those goals. That's not necessarily a bad thing—it's just something that needs to be said as the article tries to argue against dating as a means to an end.
It can be difficult at first — but reframing dating isn’t hard if you try , says Battista . “Remind yourself of dating’s fun possibilities and all the experiences you might have if dating is what you choose to do this weekend,” she says. “You just may find that dating turns out to be a lot more enjoyable than you imagined.”
This advice reminds me a lot of my dating coach's advice on going on dates: do not plan for it to go anywhere, make sure to have fun regardless . It does need a bit more explanation though—the article doesn't really explain how as dating coach as an occupation can help change your mindset about dating as an activity. In addition, is it really that easy? I'm pretty sure my dating coaches don't think it's hard : they know that their clients are all looking for dating advice.
The article itself seems to be written more as dating advice than dating advice for millennials, but it's common dating knowledge that dating is not always easy. I really don't know how much the author knows about dating culture or if she's just trying to make things up based on what sounds vaguely plausible.
Overall, it's an okay piece of writing even though parts are a little vague. The tips are good overall and readers should definitely take them into consideration! However, the entire focus is on dating being enjoyable which makes me think less of dating as something people do to find long-term relationships. Dating is difficult at times—and while it doesn't have to be unpleasant all of the time—it does help to have a dating coach or dating advice guide to help you out.
What do you guys think? Does dating seem more enjoyable because dating coaches exist, or is it still difficult? What dating advice would you give people who have never been on a date before? Let me know in the comments below!

ating is a process of disentangling yourself from your comfort zone and overcoming dating obstacles. The dating battle will get you out of your head and into the world to meet new people, but just remember that dating should never be an end in itself.
Dating means putting yourself out there and getting vulnerable. It's exposing your true self — quirks, faults, past mistakes — all while risking rejection and humiliation. Not so fun! So why do it? Dating allows us to experience new personalities, perspectives, physical intimacy, and lessons learned about what we do and don't like [1].
According to dating coach [NAME], [ARTICLE CONTINUES]
Your goal should always be dating with the endgame being relationship or marriage, not dating for dating's sake. Remembering the endgame will help you deal with dating obstacles such as rejection, dating more than one person at a time, and dating people who don't share your values [2].
Dating is supposed to be fun, so try to enjoy it! To find out if the relationship is right for you — and how your partner would treat you in difficult times — ask yourself, "Would I still go on dates with him/her?" If the answer is yes, then continue dating. However if no matter what goes wrong or whatever happens it would change your mind about wanting to date this person anymore or vice versa , then maybe it's best to move on [1].
