While dating apps like Tinder continue to get all the buzz, dating coaches say that using an antique store is a great way to meet someone unique. "It's sad how many people swipe left/right on dating apps these days," says dating coach Ben Michaelis. "They're not getting their hands dirty. It's not real life anymore; it's become this game of elimination." According to Michaelis, who has been coaching singles for over 10 years, the best way to find love is through romance—not through swiping on dating apps. "If you want a dating life, a dating app is not going to be real dating," Michaelis explains. "The best way to have a dating life is to become part of the dating community, to actually go out and meet people in person," he says. He also notes that online dating has its time and place--it's just not where you'll find love. "Dating apps are for times when you're bored waiting in line or have no plans on a Saturday night." However, if your goal is to give up the virtual world and get back into the dating scene but don't know how, it might be good idea to take a cue from a different generation: Antique store hunting! Instead of swiping left and right on dating apps, go back to the dating scene of yore by dating antique stores. "Instead of swiping on dating apps all day, why not try dating an antique shop?" dating coach Ben Michaelis says. "I took my own advice this weekend when I went to Golden Memories Antiques in Little Neck." "It's like they say, you never know what you'll find online," Michaelis laughs. "And if you think about it, it would be way more satisfying to actually go out and look for something than sit in front of a dating app all day!" So next time you're bored at home during the weekend or looking for dating tips to spice up your dating life, don't swipe left or right--go outside and get your dating on!
