Whether you sign up for dance lessons or hit up a club all night, just make sure you dance with each other. Not only is it a fantastic workout, you'll learn new moves and get an endorphin high from breaking a sweat.
It's time to dust off those dancing shoes!
If you're dating then dancing shouldn't be too hard of an activity to include on the list of things to do together. It can be intimidating at first but if your dance partner doesn't lead well, either one of you can take control by suggesting certain dances or leading movements. Some fun places around Milwaukee to try out are:
Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) offers free swing dancing classes every Tuesday night from 7-9pm at its downtown location on 5th and Highland. You can attend as many classes as you wish and then drop by for an open dance from 9 pm until midnight. On Fridays, MATC offers free ballroom lessons from 7-8:15 pm followed by their monthly "Salsa Safari" party from 8:30-11 at the Pabst Theater (144 W Wells St).
The Milwaukee Swing Dance Society meets every Wednesday night to swing dance at the Eagles Club (4422 N. Oakland Ave.) and instructs beginner classes twice a month at various locations throughout the city. Their Saturday Nights dances feature live music and dancing that begins around 9:30 pm (every other week) or 10:30 pm (the other weeks). Check their website for details on upcoming events.
The Milwaukee Salsa Club holds salsa lessons on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays around the city. Visit their site to find out where they'll be this week!
If you're dating someone who is into hip hop dancing then there are free beginner classes every Thursday night at Danceworks (3060 North 84th St.) or at Baila Latino (6727 W Greenfield Ave.). Check their websites for updated schedules and dance styles offered throughout the year.
Dance clubs aren't just for singles looking to meet new people; dating couples can go to these venues too. Spending some time bonding on the dance floor will not only give you some "couple activity" stories to share but it will help strengthen your physical connection too.
And don't be afraid to take advantage of the free dances at any wedding you may be attending or hosting! You'll both get in some exercise and see what each other is capable of when it comes to dancing. Who knows, maybe you'll even inspire his grandmother to hit the dance floor for her own tango lesson after he takes you back to meet the family someday.
Now that dating season is here, get out there and shake your booty with your date! Just make sure there's room on the dance floor first...
